IPM’s ‘Great HR Quiz’ to bolster enthusiasm amongst HR fraternity

The Great HR Quiz 2014, organised by the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) – Sri Lanka’s premier Human Resource Management Institute, will be held on Tuesday 9 December 2014 at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. The Great HR Quiz is a unique one of a kind live table type quiz which is already drawing much attention and interest amongst the country’s Human Resources fraternity since its recent announcement. The quiz will be open only for private and public sector organisations and each organisation is eligible to register a maximum of two teams with each team comprising of five members. “The primary objective of the Great HR Quiz 2014 is to take the Human Resource Management profession to new vistas by creating awareness of the need to be dynamic in an ever changing business as well as human resource management landscape,” said Chrisantha Obeyesekere, Quiz Master, Council Member and a past President of the Institute of Personnel Management. He further emphasised that the Great HR Quiz 2014 will be an ideal platform to broaden horizons for the HR fraternity whilst providing opportunities for networking and upgrading of knowledge which will be a pillar of strength in the nation’s drive for inclusive development and growth of the economy. The Quiz – which will be conducted through electronic response devices – will comprise of five rounds, each with 10 questions per round that assess the participants’ knowledge and understanding pertaining to General HRM, Labour and International Law, Leadership, Management, Training and Development and Talent management. One round will comprise of Current Affairs and Sports to add variety to the competition. The winning team will receive the Great HR Quiz Trophy together with a cash award of Rs. 50,000 while the 1st and 2nd runners up will receive a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. The best performing teams in the categories of Banking and Insurance and IT, Software, Telecom & BPO, Travel, hospitality and leisure, Apparel and textiles, Manufacturing and FMCG, and Food & beverage will also receive sectoral performance awards. IPM was founded in 1959, with the objective of developing the profession of Personnel Management. Subsequently the Institute was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976. With the small beginnings in 1959 the Institute has developed to be the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka in line with the mandate given by Parliament. The institute has contributed significantly to develop and nurture the Human Resource Management profession in the country. IPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resources Management and also to the World Federation of People Management Association. IPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) Sri Lanka. Currently IPM comprises of over 900 Professional Members who serve in both public and private organisations, as well as approximately 7,000 students who follow the diverse programs on human resources offered by IPM and its regional study centres throughout the country.
