The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) is the national body addressing the discipline of purchasing and all supply-chain events in Sri Lanka.

The study packages offered through their courses, ranging from the graduate to the diploma level, conducted for the disbursement of knowledge, competencies and exposure in the subject, has been recognised by both the Government and commercial institutions and industries.

The institute conducts classes over the weekends and demand for registration is increasing. Prospective students are also requesting that the institute arrange evening classes during weekdays as they find this more convenient.

Thought is being given to the idea of conducting classes during weekdays from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. on three weekdays in order to accommodate student requests for evening lessons.

Knowledge in the specific links of the supply chain is becoming more important as the market competition for goods and material is ever more significant and costs are rising at a rapid rate. Production has to consider all possible cost-cutting methods, handling strategies and viable transport, packing and packaging methods.

Various industries are conscious of this fact and are interested in investing on employee training programs in the field of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management for the benefit of the respective organisations.

With this fact in mind, the Institute of Supply and Materials Management is embarking on their first weekday course in ‘Stores Management’ with immediate effect.
