Janashakthi Insurance PLC won the Silver Award at the Sri Lanka Institute of Training And Development (SLITAD) People Development Awards, showcasing the company’s commitment towards its employees. The award ceremony was held on 22 November at Waters Edge, and saw many top corporates coming together to celebrate their contribution to people development. “At Janashakthi, we recognise that our employees are our most precious resources. As such, it is an honour to be acknowledged at this award ceremony, given the prestige associated with the ceremony,” General Manager Human Resources and Administration Gamini Peiris said. The SLITAD People Development Award follows a strict assessment process spanning 10 areas. Companies applying for the awards must show a clear and forward thinking business strategy, be proficient in people management strategy, have definite leadership and management policies in place, demonstrate management effectiveness, have an adequate recognition and reward system in place for its employees, while helping them to feel involved and empowered. Applicants that nurture their employees by promoting learning and development within the organisation are also encouraged. This investment in people management and development should also be reflected in company performance. Candidates should also always be looking to improve, constantly evaluating their people management and development processes. A team of impartial assessors reviewed each applicant stringently, to ensure that they fulfilled the necessary requirements. “It is an honour to be shortlisted for this award, validating our philosophy of inspiring confidence among our employees. Over the past 10 years, the human resources department has grown exponentially, considering its humble beginnings. Under minimal investment, we received huge returns due to our commitment to continuous improvement. All our programs and relevant material were developed in-house, which is a remarkable achievement. Going forward, we plan to continuously improve our people management, learning and development processes,” Assistant General Manager Human Resource Development Lalith Munasinghe said.
