Each year JASTECA , Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association
sends top Sri Lankan managers on scholarship training to Japan after a rigorous interview and a selection process. These technical and managerial scholarship programmes are offered by the Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry ( MITI) through the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA). Japan.
On their return to Sri Lanka these scholars become eligible to become members of Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA), the Sri Lankan alumni association of returned trainees.
Out of the 71 such alumni societies in 43 countries, JASTECA the Sri Lankan alumni society, is considered the finest in terms of its contribution to the Sri Lankan Industries and the local communities through its many projects and its CSR activities. These alumni societies in the 43 countries are categorized into six regions of the world. The Sri Lankan alumni association belongs to the South Asian Federation of AOTS Alumni Societies (SAFAAS).

This year the meeting of the Federation was held in Colombo recently hosted by JASTECA. This meeting was well represented by the other alumni societies in South Asia. The delegates represented countries such as; India, Bangladesh and Nepal. HIDA the parent organisation of the federation was represented by Mr Masami Tada who arrived in Sri Lanka from Japan. Many HRD and Regional Business Development matters were covered in detail at the meeting. Following this meeting the delegates met for fellowship and dinner at the Sasakawa Hall where they had the opportunity to meet and socialize among the international participants who took part in two other significant and important events organized by JASTECA which was the Youth Leadership Workshop in Negambo and the International Seminar on Extraordinary Breakthrough Thinking (EBT) By Professor Shozo Hibino of Japan, in Colombo.

The Youth Leadership Workshop (YLW) of SAFAAS region was the second of its kind in the history of the South Asian Federation of Alumni Societies that was held recently. The objective of the workshop was to enhance the leadership skills of the youth leaders in AOTS Alumni Societies by providing them with leadership training, team building ,project work opportunities, mentoring. These young leaders are nurtured to lead the AOTS alumni associations in thefuture in their respective countries with energy, enthusiasm and drive for the benefit of the local communities and industries. There were 25 youth participants from 10 Alumni Societies from the South Asian countries. These participants also took part in the seminar on Extraordinary Breakthrough Thinking conducted by Professor Shozo Hibino.
International seminar on extraordinary breakthrough thinking
this was another successful event organized for the international participants from the South Asia Federation of AOTS Alumni Associations (SAFAAS). This seminar was open to the participation of the Sri Lankan Managers as well. It was heartening to see that this seminar drawing strong interest among the Senior Managers in private as well as the public sector organisations in Sri Lanka. Professor Hibino is no stranger to Sri Lanka, having come a few occasions previously to train local managers from the private as well as the public sectors, on Creative Thinking and Problem Solving Techniques. He also had been consulted on Breakthrough Thinking (BT) by a highly successful Governmental venture in Sri Lanka. His bestselling books on Breakthrough Thinking (BT) could also be found in many organisations and in private collections in Sri Lanka.
Further, his books have been translated into 6 Asian and a few European Languages. The logistics for this International Seminar was undertaken by JASTECA Institute of Management ( JIM0 which is the “Local” Management arm of JASTECA.
Overall, these three events received many accolades from International and the local participants Many commented on the immaculate planning and execution of all the aspects of the programmes ,the accommodation and local transport arrangements. International participants carried with them pleasant memories of beautiful Sri Lanka.
