Kulasooriya awarded Ph.D. from JNTU, India

Dr. D.M.A. Kulasooriya, Director of National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), obtained his PhD on Lean Management from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), India in February 2015. Dr. Kulasooriya is a pioneering professional in operations management in the country with over 20 years of experience and his contribution to the industry is unparalleled. Among his key initiatives are the introduction and implementation of Six Sigma System as well as the Lean Manufacturing Certification to Sri Lanka. His initiation and involvement in over 250 Six Sigma projects for more than 10 years in different industries have led to produce 200 Green Belts and 50 Black Belts so far in the country. Driven by the utmost values of integrity, professionalism and innovation, Dr. Kulasooriya’s corporate standards are formulated upon his belief on maintaining quality ubiquitously in the organisational practices, processes and functions in order to benchmark operational management functions in industries. Dr. Kulasooriya possesses a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Peradeniya and a Master of Science in Management from University of Sri Jayewardenepura together with postgraduate training in Management from Postgraduate Institute of Management. He has further obtained numerous professional qualifications in Quality Assurance, Marketing and Productivity Management from Netherlands, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Pakistan and India. In addition to being the Director, Productivity and Management Development of NIBM, Dr. Kulasooriya is also the Director of Academic Affairs of NSBM, the degree awarding School of National Institute of Business Management (NIBM). He also sits on the Board of Directors at NSBM and Convenience Foods Ltd. of CBL Ltd., and is a member of the CEB Appeal Board as well as the Land Reform Commission.
