Lifetime gold medalist Samitha Perera elected IPM President

CBL Foods International CEO Samitha Perera was elected as the president of the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) for 2013-2014. The election was held at the AGM on 27 July 2013. During the previous council year, Perera officiated as a council member and as the Chairman of the Marketing Committee of IPM’s Council and played an active role in IPM’s new approach towards inculcating innovative human resource management methods in HR management. Samitha Perera is an exceptional HRM professional who made a quick progression from a mere management trainee to director of human resources within a period of 15 years. His exceptional leadership qualities and original approaches in people management gained him the position of CBL Foods International CEO. Perera began his career in 1992 as a Management Trainee – Human Resources at Singer Industries (Ceylon) Ltd. and since then, his outstanding skills have helped him in a brisk ascent of career ladders of his chosen profession, playing key management roles in multi-national companies. In 1998, he became Senior Manager – Human Resources, Singer Group of Companies, Head of Human Resources at Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka in 2000, Group Human Resources Manager of Caltex Lubricants Sri Lanka in 2002, Human Resources Director of British American Tobacco, Sri Lanka in 2006 and CBL Food International CEO in 2012.  His contribution to the industry and the profession, the continuous endeavours towards excellence in HRM and his quick progression to the highest level of management gained him the much acclaimed IPM Lifetime Gold Medal at the recently concluded National Human Resources Conference (NHRC) 2013.  He has also been lauded for many achievements in the fields of people performance management, employee relations and productivity management. His vast experience and proven aptitude in human resource management, as well as his expertise in finance, marketing and operations management, makes him a well rounded business leader and apt candidate for the position of president of an institute that endeavours to provide HRM excellence to the country.
