Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) will launch its Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Degree in October after the successful launch of its Executive MBA program early this year.

The three-year degree will be delivered in Colombo at Next Campus. The MGU BBA is delivered in 35 countries and caters to students who desire an internationally recognised BBA degree.

NEXT Campus Director Kumudu Abeywardene said: “Today secondary education is very competitive. As many as 250,000 students sit for A/Ls and only 25,000 or so get the chance to enter State universities. Even some of them do not get their choice of study, but are forced to take whatever is being offered. Some have the chance to go abroad and study, but that’s a very few. The rest keeps wondering how they could get quality education so that they are ready for a good job. There is a big gap here and this is the reason why we thought we should bring quality, affordable education to Sri Lanka.”

She also said the biggest challenge today is to shape secondary education to suit job needs. “There are many graduates without suitable employment and at the same time the private sector complains that they cannot find the right talent for their vacancies. This is the gap we want to close and make our BBA graduates ready for the right jobs that are in demand. We have a lot of experience and contacts with the private sector and we have coached over 5,000 students in the last five years. We understand the needs of the private sector and we can prepare students for jobs.”

MGU is a university that is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is authorised to award Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree programs in Sri Lanka through the Next Campus. MGU programs are delivered in 35 counties and are designed for the international market. The syllabus content is up-to-date and is on par with top BBA programs. University provides all study material and students will have access to one of the biggest online study resources in this part of the world.

Abeywardene said the degree program spans three years. “We will deliver it at the Next Campus using a qualified panel of lecturers. There are six semesters each having five subjects totalling 30 comprehensive modules and ending with a work-based project. This will be in the form of fulltime study mode and we will place a lot of emphasis on the practical side. The three-year program is designed in a way that there are many opportunities for internships and onsite visits with leading companies in Sri Lanka.

We have already agreed with these companies to send our students for short internships, so that they will get real-life experience on how business is done. We believe this will make the difference for most as most companies will like to recruit some of the interns who perform well.”

Next Campus is a leading education institute in Colombo with vast experience in coaching many students in the last five years. It is the largest Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM – UK) study centre in Sri Lanka.
