MBA Alumni Association – University of Colombo convenes its 20th AGM

The 20th Annual General Meeting of the MBA Alumni Association of the University of Colombo was held on 29 June at the Hilton Colombo Residencies.

High Commissioner of Australia Bryce Hutchessonwas the Chief Guest and spoke of the close ties between our two countries which were established even before Sri Lanka received her independence.

University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Professor Lakshman Dissanayake, who was Guest of Honour, described the progress the university made during his tenure and thanked the association for the close relationship that has developed between the two organisations.

Faculty of Finance and Management Dean Dr. R. Senathiraja was also present as Special Guest.

The leadership of the association changed hands from Sarmaa Mahalingam to Irshan Jayah for the year 2017/18. Jayah who received his Master’s Degree in 2007, has diverse international business experience, having worked at ABC Shipping Ltd. and Richard Pieirs Exports Ltd. Currently he is the General Manager Sales and Marketing of Electromeric Engineering Co. Ltd., which is a Swedish multinational company listed in Stockholm. Jayah holds the overall responsibility for international sales and marketing activities.

The newly-elected President Jayah outlining his theme ‘Excellence in Diversity’ said that he would leverage the association’s engagement with its members, university, corporates and the public sector to achieve new targets and aspirations.

The highlight of the event was the recognition of the 20 past presidents whose contribution was publicly recognised by President Irshan Jayah. He and Immediate Past President Sarmaa Mahalingam pinned on each of them the Past President’s Insignia.

The MBA Alumni Association of University of Colombo is an active body with a membership base of around 700 who represent diverse fields of achievement and disciplines and specialties. They organise events of national importance bringing together the academia, corporates and the public sector.

The association has become a vibrant entity in Sri Lanka which seeks to build close ties with the University of Colombo and aims to raise the bar of the MBA program on par with international standards.
