The Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF) has extended its education and training programs to meet the tailor-made requirements of corporate institutions, irrespective of the magnitude of their operations. The Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka joined hands with the SLF Language and ICT Unit to enhance the competencies of its human resources through the development of communication skills in the usage of business English. Branch Managers, Assistant Managers, Secretaries and Executives underwent a certificate course in business English with a focus on practical applications and corporate communications.

MBSL is geared to nurture and develop its staff with all aspects in competencies. The successes of corporate transactions heavily depend on the meticulous usage of the English language in business and organisational operations. The emerging demands of world class customer service are largely determined by the ability of employees to communicate with different customers seeking multiple demands. In particular, the banking sector is driving this with the increasing demand for articulate communication by its staff in an intensely competitive environment. Communication skills enable them to stand out from the rest in the banking industry.

The SLF is known to be the foremost adult education centre in Sri Lanka, which was established in 1974 consequent to an agreement between the Sri Lanka Foundation and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.

Today, the SLF is on a stronger footing where it has been regularised under an Act of Parliament, The Sri Lanka Foundation Law No.31 of 1973. The Sri Lanka Foundation functions autonomously under the purview of the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka and is managed by a Board.

MBSL Chairman M.R. Shah, CEO T Mutugala, AGM- HR Amitha Samarasinghe and senior management and staff of MBSL were present at the ceremony. SLF Chairman Professor Ranjith Banadara, senior officers and staff of SLF were also present at the ceremony.
