Importance of company culture
The Guest Speaker Roshan explained the importance of the company culture and how to drive a culture shift by using several HR interventions and techniques. He further stated how new recruits were oriented professionally to blend in with the company culture for if the culture is positive and strong, it helps the employees to feel as one with the company and support the organisation in times of turmoil.
He gave examples and case studies from his previous and current experiences. The session was followed by Questions and Answers and the large HR fraternity present had very interesting knowledge and information inter-changes.
Attendees were HR Directors, HR Managers and HRD Managers. McQuire Rens Group of companies Group Chairman Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya, in his introductory talk stated that it is time that Human Resources Heads acted as business advisors and partner with the CEOs in order to deliver smooth transitions and adjustments to cultural changes and norms. He further suggested that HR managers must play an assertive role in earning respect from line management whilst supporting them with timely HR value-adding interventions and initiatives.
He also said that HR must no more be seen as organisational ‘waste paper baskets’ and that HR professionals must be able to define the value they create, taking into consideration that ‘Value’ is generally defined by the receiver and not the giver.
The event was organised by McQuire Rens Group Business Coordinator and Group HR Executive Nimna Bandulage. The next HR Conclave will be held in January 2013. Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
