Mora Pera Engineers Reunion to be held on 5 Dec. at University of Moratuwa

Prof-Rohan-JDistinguished scholar and prominent engineer Professor Roahn J. Lucas is to deliver the annual Mora Pera Reunion Oration on 5 December. A distinguished engineering graduate from University of Peradeniya Eng. Ranjith Gunatilleke, Managing Director of Sanken Construction Ltd. will be the Chief Guest of the third Engineer Reunion which is scheduled to be held for the first time at University of Moratuwa after two successful editions held in 2013 and 2014 at University of Peradeniya. 

Moratuwa and Peradeniya engineers have joined hands to synergise the collective strength of Sri Lankan engineers across the globe to collaborate and support engineering innovations and research in Sri Lanka. The inaugural Mora Pera Engineers Reunion was held in 2013 at the University of Peradeniya on 30 March 2013.

“This is a very timely initiative. At a time all Sri Lankans are looking forward to a prosperous future for the country, every professional has a role to play in our economic development. The reunion of Moratuwa and Peradeniya engineering is a fine opportunity for engineers from various generations to re-establish contacts and network. The outcome of such collaborations should no doubt enhance their collective contribution to the Sri Lankan society at large,” said Ministry of Megapolis and Western Province Development Secretary Eng. Nihal Rupasingha. Eng. Rupasinghe is a distinguished engineering graduate from University of Peradeniya who is also a Patron of Mora Pera Engineers Reunion. Eng. Damith Hettihewa who initiated the Mora Pera Engineers Reunion along with the enthusiastic and patriotic group of Moratuwa and Peradeniya Engineers commented: “A larger percentage of Sri Lankan engineers work and live aboard. Building a global engineers network is a key objective of the Mora Pera Engineers Reunion initiative.” “We engineers from Moratuwa and Peradeniya universities are beneficiaries of the free education system and hence have a greater responsibility to contribute to the country’s betterment. Hence I sincerely hope that Mora and Pera engineers will come forward to strengthen the fund that we launched at the Moratuwa Peradeniya Reunion Oration held in 2014 at University of Peradeniya,” concluded Eng. Hettihewa. Organised for the first time at Moratuwa, this year’s event is expected to be attended by a large number of engineers from Sri Lanka as well as from abroad. The Mora Pera Cricket encounter for the Sir Arthur C. Clarke Memorial Trophy will also be played at Moratuwa University Grounds following the annual oration and reunion lunch.
