Felicitation by Past President of MRCA     The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) Academy conducts regular programs to brief MRCA members on new concepts that can boost their organisational performance. Last week’s program on ‘Unleashing physical and mental power’ was presented by Dr. Asoka Jinadasa from Sri Lanka. He shared his innovative new methods for energising and empowering employees by unleashing the almost limitless physical and mental power sleeping within them. MRCA President Dato’ Liaw said, “We want to give our chain store operators and franchisors new concepts that can help improve their competitiveness and performance. When Capt. Pui Seng Tai recommended Dr. Asoka Jinadasa from Sri Lanka, we invited him to share with our members his innovative new methods for unleashing human potential, which he has presented at many international conferences in Europe and Asia.” Dr. Jinadasa is a UK-qualified Chartered Engineer with a US Doctorate in Corporate Strategy and several decades of high-level management experience in Europe, USA and Asia. Demonstration of the unbendable arm   Explaining the importance of empowering employees at all levels for organisational success, Dr. Jinadasa said, “Service delivery in the retail business is done by frontline staff, without any direct supervision by their managers. Therefore, sustaining success in the retail business against increasing levels of competition depends on the personal energy of all frontline employees and their passionate commitment to satisfying customer needs through superior service levels.” MRCA past President Datuk Seri Nelson Kwok said, “This was the first time we invited a foreign speaker to address our members. The participants of this program were very enthusiastic about the practical applicability of the new ideas and methodologies that Dr. Jinadasa shared with them for improving their personal and organisational performance. Some even said that this was the best training program they have ever attended, because it gave them a practical set of tools to overcome negative emotions and limiting beliefs that pose invisible mental roadblocks on the way to individual and organisational success.” MRCA members who attended   Dr. Jinadasa explained his new five-dimensional model of success, symbolised by Heart (emotional intelligence for dealing with people), Mind (creative intelligence for solving complex problems), Passion (personal energy and drive), Focus (determination to achieve goals despite setbacks) and Health (staying naturally healthy and stress-free). He explained how to develop each dimension using a simple blend of behavioural psychology, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and Chinese and Himalayan energy methods. He gave participants a simple set of tools to improve their daily performance and productivity through increased awareness, self-confidence and personal energy. He stressed the importance of practising these simple exercises that develop all five dimensions of success every day for at least 21 consecutive days to convert them into daily habits. He concluded by acknowledging the efforts of MRCA Executive Secretary Joanne Yau, ably assisted by Prisheeta Princess, to make this program a great success. MRCA is the leading association for chain store operators and franchisors in Malaysia. It was established in 1992 to assist chain retailers to expand their store chains and promote growth in the retail and franchise industry, both locally and abroad. MRCA has more than 250 leading retail chain store operators as well as franchisors, covering more than 20,000 outlets throughout Malaysia.
