NDB Toastmasters Club hosts inaugural ‘Best Speaker Contest’

The grand finale of the Inaugural NDB Best Speaker Contest organised by the NDB Toastmasters Club was held recently at the DHPL Auditorium of the NDB-EDB Towers. The Chief Guest was NDB Bank Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Theagarajah and the Guest of Honour was NDB Bank Vice President - Administration & Services Mancius Paiva. The event was attended by the senior management and the staff of the bank and invitees from the toastmasters fraternity. Chief Guest Theagarajah, in his speech, said that NDB has recognised and fostered the development of speech craft amongst staff. It has and will continue to contribute to individual personal development which will add tremendous value in positioning staff in their chosen vocation and will also create an opportunity for the participants to relax and enjoy themselves. This was further reiterated by the Guest of Honour Mancius Paiva. President of the NDB Toastmasters Club Mahesha Amarasuriya in her welcome speech stated that it was a challenge to have conducted a speech contest for all staff members of the bank within eight months of having chartered the NDB Toastmasters Club and thanked the senior management, contestants, judges and the executive committee for the support and encouragement rendered to take on the challenge. As explained by the Project Chairman Nishantha Hettiarachchi, the contest commenced with over eighty applicants representing all areas of the bank including the branch network, and was held in three rounds. Training workshops were held at the end of each round which enabled the contestants to identify their strengths and weaknesses and improve themselves before the next round. The training was carried out by distinguished Toastmaster Padmini Samarasinghe Eight finalists competed for the ultimate championship at the Grand Finale. The winner was Thesula Rambadagalle. The 1st runner-up was Sarangi Fernando and the 2nd runner-up was Mario Perera.
