The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) has organised a workshop on ‘GRI New Standards’ in association with the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) and Global Reporting Initiative Focal Point India. The workshop will be held on Friday 6 September from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Golden Pond, Hotel Taj Samudra. The latest version of the Global Reporting Initiative’s Sustainability Reporting Guidelines G4 was launched on 22 May 2013 at the GRI Global Conference in Amsterdam. Over 1600 sustainability leaders and practitioners from 82 countries convened in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for three days to discuss the key challenges and opportunities on the path to a more sustainable future. GRI Focal Point India in partnership with Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) and South Asia Federation of Accountants (SAFA) will organise the launch of the G4 Guidelines in Sri Lanka to enhance more reporting and improve the quality of reports in South Asia. In addition to enhancing the relevance and quality of standalone sustainability reports, G4 will be a powerful framework for South Asia in generating material sustainability information for inclusion and alignment with annual reports, CSR reports, business responsibility report and integrated reports. The GRI workshop will provide an introduction to GRI and its products and services. Introductory GRI workshops show how GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Framework helps organisations measure and communicate their performance, and benefit from this transparency. The workshop is ideal for organisations currently looking at improvements in annual reports and those with little or no sustainability reporting experience. Participants learn why organisations of all types and sizes prepare sustainability reports. They also discover GRI, and how the Reporting Framework can help them to manage their economic, environmental and governance impacts responsibly. The workshop covers issues like the GRI reporting process, stakeholder engagement to identify topics, and defining report content. This one day workshop is specially designed to meet clients’ needs. The following eminent speakers from GRI Focal Point India and South Asia will address the workshop: Dr. Aditi Haldar – Director, GRI Focal Point India; Paresh Tewary – Chief Sustainability Officer, JSW; Suresh Gooneratne – Chief Financial Officer, Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO); and Dipak Kripalani – Head, Partnerships & Solutions, Eco-Sustainability Services, Tata Consultancy Services. The seminar is meant for members of CMA, chartered and management accountants, financial analysts, directors, CEOs, senior managers, executives, management trainees, academics and Government officials.
