Addressing the ceremony, People’s Bank Chairman Gamini Sedara Senarath said: “In celebration of the bank’s 52nd anniversary, I consider that it is vital to recognise all the employees, who have completed 25 years and 40 years of service with the bank. There should be a perfect foundation to strengthen a financial institute and what I meant from the perfect foundation is not that a physical foundation but the people that have made the bank what it is today. Former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Minister T.B. Ilangaratne were at the forefront of initiating the concept of creating a bank for the people and from the inception they managed to identify a team of reliable individuals that had vision of enabling banking for the nation.”
“The bank, which was started with the Duke Street Branch in Colombo, has now expanded into one of the country’s largest financial institutes, having 729 branches with tens of thousands employees. The bank’s Human Resources department has a direct impact on this success and it is clear that we have selected those resources precisely to take the bank to its success. At this occasion, I wish all of those who are being recognised the very best and thank them for their service.”
CEO/GM Kumar speaking at the event said: “It is a pleasure to see all of you who have been with the bank for 25 years being awarded with gold for your involvement with the bank while sharing your knowledge, effort and time in bringing the banking system closer to the public. The bank has achieved many victories with your effort in promoting People’s Bank amongst the public during the past 52 years. Your immense courage and contribution helped to promote the bank among the public in today’s competing banking environment. We expect to have your contribution for the success of the bank in future as well. Moreover, senior employees who have completed 40 years with the bank have also been awarded today for their knowledge and efficiency has truly benefited the future of the bank enormously.” The tribute ceremony also included entertainment events.
