Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) added another milestone to its initiatives by conducting the first-ever Student Research Day recently. Nine research projects of both MBA and Ph.D. students were presented at the Research Day under three main subject areas, namely, entrepreneurship, leadership and innovation, and advanced management. Each of these three sessions were chaired by the Faculty and distinguished academics as well as reputed entrepreneurs. University Grants Commission Chairperson Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama spoke on the importance of research in Higher Education Institutions, as such research would ultimately provide inputs to face the global challenges, as well as for positive change in the society. Hence, this endeavour, undertaken by the PIM, would for certain, benefit the society and ultimately the country at large. Especially in our march towards a ‘knowledge economy’ research activities would stand in good-stead in providing the much needed conceptual and practical inputs in the field of management. PIM Acting Director Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri, making the welcome remarks at the inauguration, said that the PIM initiated this concept of showcasing our research to benefit a larger audience including students, academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers. A further point he stressed was the necessity to bridge the gap regarding the current and desired levels of engaging in management research, with publishable quality and applicability. He thanked the team of officers who contributed to the success of this maiden activity. PIM Senior Consultant Dr. Travis Perera, in providing an overview of the Research Day, traced the initiatives taken by the institute from its inception to encourage research activities, and more importantly the continuity of the publication of the Sri Lankan Journal of Management, which would be elevated to an international research publication in the near future. Visiting Professor Prof. A.T. Fonseka proposed the vote of thanks.
