The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) driven by its objective to promote advanced education and professionalism in Sri Lanka, has in the recent years widened its scope of undertaking the training and development of the managerial cadres of the corporate sector. One of its most recent endeavours has been to launch a management and leadership development program (MLDP) for sales officers of the Union Assurance PLC (UA).
UA being one of Sri Lanka’s largest providers of life and general insurance solutions has anchored its success on a team of experienced and dynamic professionals. Among them the company’s sales officers play a vital role in ensuring continued growth and sustainability of the industry by meeting the changing needs of the customers while maintaining its services at accepted international standards.
PIM Senior Consultant Dr. Travis Perera at the launch of the program on 6 August said that the PIM has been known for its core program, the MBA. But the faculty being experienced for many years in different industries, have realised that it is important to be competitive in the international world.
Therefore, these modules to develop managers at all levels are considered as an extended arm the PIM has undertaken in recent years towards elevating the performance levels of the corporate world through competency-based training and development.
UA CEO Dirk Pereira said that with the trend towards globalisation and more competitors entering the industry, in addition to the players who are already in, the differentiator in our organisation would be leadership, and more importantly the quality of leadership that matters ultimately in determining the success of our performances, and its impact on our stakeholders.
Among the many aspects of management that determine the success of an industry it is the quality and level of leadership that would be considered as the ultimate determinant that gives the competitive edge.
It was this concept that provided the focus for the development of this particular program.
Further, the company considered that the PIM would be the best organisation to organise and handle such a leadership development program. PIM Training and Publications Manager K.A.I. Kalyanaratne and UA Assistant General Manager Suranjith Gogagama also addressed the participants.
