The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) has achieved another feat in conducting the first-ever SAARC regional workshop on performance management for Public Service Commission members. This was jointly organised by the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Sri Lanka, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
PIM Acting Director Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri, Ministry of Small Industries Secretary V. Sivagnasothy and Dr. Lloyd Fernando and J. Jayasundara were the key resource personnel for this two-day workshop.
Ministry of Productivity Development Secretary Upali Marasinghe was the Chief Guest at the inauguration whilst PSC of Sri Lanka Chairman Justice Sathya Hettige was the Guest of Honour. SAARC Director Dhan Bahadur Oli was also present at the inauguration.
The participants collectively shared their experiences in moving towards a more rational and transparent performance management system for public sector employees.
PSC Sri Lanka Secretary Chandrani Senarathne was instrumental in developing a performance management system for Sri Lanka as a pilot project. A consensus was reached to share best practices and to work in a more collaborative manner in assessing performance of the public sector personnel.
The need to establish a research and development unit on performance management as a joint project of PSC and PIM was also discussed. ADB Consultant Harsha Fernando was keen on continuing to improve the existing performance appraisal systems prevailing in SAARC countries.
