Regional Management Conference of South Asian Management Development Institutions kicks off today

Regional Management Conference of South Asian Management Development Institutions will be held in Sri Lanka on 25 and 26 July at the PIM, Lesley Ranagala Mawatha, Borella.

The theme of the conference is ‘Management Development through International Networking and Collaborations’ and will be hosted by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers and the Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM) University of Sri Jayawardenapurain Partnership with the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA).

The Board Meeting of AMDISA chaired by the President of AMDISA Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala from Sri Lanka will include the board members from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan and will be held at the Board Room of the Post Graduate Institute of Management.

The theme of the conference is ‘Management Development through International Net Working and Collaborations’.

The conference will be inaugurated on 25 July at the Auditorium PIM by the Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya and the keynote speaker will be Dr. Razeen Sally Chairman Institute of Policy Studies and a leading economist from Singapore.   

There will be four technical sessions on 26 July. Eminent management academics, professionals and practitioners from the South Asian region will address the conference.   

The technical sessions topics will be: Overview of South Asian Scenario on Networking and Collaboration; Strategic Actions and networking: Key initiatives where the South Asian Quality Standards will be explained; Challenges in Management Development – Country Perspectives and Corporate Learning Improvement Process (CLIP) which will be specially meant for the corporates engaged in corporate learning and how they can benefit from international networking and collaborations.

AMDISA is the only association which networks management development institutions across the South Asian nations, through exchange of information, conducting regional conferences and providing a forum for academics and business leaders. 

This conference is meant for university academics, government training organisations, professional institutions, professionals, companies in the private sector, state owned enterprises, institutions and schools offering Masters Programs.

The Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) was established in 1988, with the initiative of leading management development institutions in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region. AMDISA is an international not-for-profit association, and is a ‘SAARC Recognised Body’. It has 224 members, of which 205 are Institutional Members from the SAARC region, four Affiliate Members, one Corporate Member and 14 Reciprocal Members. Membership is available to management development networks all over the world.

The Sri Lankan members of AMDISA include PIM Sri Lanka, Management Faculty University of Sri Jayewardenepura University, SLIDA, NIBM, Moratuwa University and Institute of Certified Professional Managers (CPM). 

The mission of AMDISA is to ‘Promote management excellence in South Asia   by networking management development institutions and facilitating their partnership with corporate enterprises and public agencies in the region’.

AMDISA launched a global benchmark quality assurance and accreditation system for Business Schools in this part of the world called as South Asian Quality Assurance System with acronym as SAQS. So far seventeen reputed schools, from India and Pakistan, have availed the services offered by SAQS, and have been accredited by AMDISA. Nine more schools, from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, are in various stages of the SAQS process, after having been found eligible by the SAQS Committee. 

More schools in the region especially those offering Masters Programs are expected to seek the academic guidance and strategic audit provided by SAQS in order to provide quality programs providing greater recognition to these Management Schools.
