Regus Country Manager Dr. Nirmal De Silva honoured for business leadership

The awards ceremony, which was held for the seventh year, took place at the Taj Samudra Hotel recently. The Australian Alumni Excellence Awards is organised by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and recognises Sri Lankans with applied skills and knowledge acquired from an Australia education in their respective fields of expertise. The annual event is known to showcase the achievements of individuals who have received quality Australian education and excelled in their careers. Several Australian universities nominate their Alumni for this award ceremony every year with the winners being selected by a panel of judges. Dr. Nirmal De Silva, an old boy of St. Peter’s College Colombo, is a business professional with more than 15 years senior management experience in the Asia Pacific region. Having obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Monash University and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Edith Cowan University, he completed his Doctorate in Business Administration from Aldersgate in 2014. He is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA-Australia) and a Post Graduate in Marketing (CIM-UK). Dr. De Silva had the honour of winning the Sri Lanka Prize at the CIM (UK) exam 1999 and also was inducted to the prestigious ‘Golden Key International Honour Society’ for his Outstanding Scholastic Achievement during his Undergraduate Studies in Australia. He has worked in many diverse areas such as sales, marketing, business development, alliances, product management, operations and country management for a number of multinational and Fortune 500 companies. He was instrumental in setting up the Sri Lankan operations of Regus PLC – the world’s largest flexible workspace provider (an LSE-quoted company with presence in over 100 countries) – and currently serves as its Country Manager for Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest at this year’s awards ceremony was Australian Acting High Commissioner Sonya Koppe while Austrade-South Asia Trade Commissioner (Education) Tom Calder also graced the occasion.
