Responsibility of education is to change untalented persons to talented persons: President

The purpose of education must be to eradicate the weakness in children and to build a good citizen utilising their talents, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa pointed out that nowadays, giving admission for talented students only is a custom for some schools. He further said that the responsibility of the education is to treat each child equally as well as change untalented persons to talented persons.
The President made this statement while handing over the newly built performance theatre and the three-storied building to the students of the Horana Vidyarathna Pirivena institution.
The Vidyarathna Pirivena institution has produced many prominent Buddhist monks.
The President speaking further stated that Pirivena education plays a major part in the country’s education sector and as a result of that the Government has allocated more funds from this budget to uplift Pirivena education.
Modern education is important for the Bhikkhus too, he said adding that our Buddhist monks need to have a profound knowledge in English as well as Pali and Sanskrit.
Buddhist monks who were living in ancient times knew many languages. Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thero was a multi-linguist, the President further said.
President Rajapaksa states that the Government will continue its development program amidst any criticisms.
