Rohitha Amarapala elected President of IPM Executive Council

The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management, conducted its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 26 July at HR House, Colombo 5 amidst a large gathering of Sri Lanka’s top human resource practitioners. Rohitha Amarapala was elected as the President of the IPM Executive Council for 2014/15, succeeding Samitha Perera who held the reins during the year 2013/14. Amarapala currently functions as the Head of Human Resources, at Pan Asia Banking Corporation (PLC) and has held several senior management positions in HR in public, private and multinational organisations during the last two decades. Rohitha is a Fellow Member of IPM and holds an MBA from the University of Western Sydney, Australia. He was initially elected to the IPM Council in 2001 and has since held several positions rendering yeoman service to uplift the standards of HRM in the country. He was conferred the prestigious ‘Pride of HR Profession Award’ for his contribution to the HR profession at the World HRD Congress held in Mumbai, India in 2010. He is an old boy of Ananda College, Colombo. Perera in his speech as the outgoing President thanked the outgoing Executive Council and the members as well as the IPM Staff for all the support given to him to complete a very successful year. In his address as the new President, Amarapala outlined his vision and objectives for the coming year and pledged his commitment to making IPM as the only professional HR body recognised by the Government of Sri Lanka. He also thanked all those who had supported him right throughout and thanked the outgoing President and Council for their great work. IPM, founded in 1959, is a professional body incorporated by an Act of Parliament (1976). IPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management and World Federation of Personnel Management Associations. The institute is constantly working on maintaining and raising the professional standards in human resources management and the development of the human resources management profession, which is achieved through conducting professional examinations, seminars and workshops, conferences, research studies and providing HR consultancy.
