Seminar from Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association

The Sri Lanka Apparel Souring Association has organised a seminar for the benefit of members of the apparel sector on Friday, 27 September 2013 at the BMICH, BCIS Auditorium from 8 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The target groups for the awareness and training program are Merchandisers, QA Staff, QC Managers and Managers. It has been seen that the world’s appetite for Sri Lanka apparels and textiles (“Garments without Guilt”) has grown steadily. This program is a long term strategic move with the objective of making personnel of Sri Lanka’s apparel sector and the SME’s more knowledgeable. This awareness and training program has been organised because we see the tremendous potential for the industry and because of the high demand from the association’s members for a training program of this nature. The facilitators of the program are to be Brandix College of Clothing Technology CEO Professor Rohana Kuruppu (BA (Hons), MSc (UK), PhD (Australia), C Text FTI (UK) ) who will talk on fabric technology and sourcing with his vast knowledge in apparels for over 20 years; Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Lanka Ltd. will speak on reading and understanding test reports by Senior Lab Manager Softline Muditha Prabashani who holds a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering and who has over 19 Years of experience in the apparel industry; Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Lanka Ltd. Analytical Lab Manager Sonali Nakandala (BSc Chemistry Special, MBA, Qualified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001 & ISO 17025) will also speak, Roshan Peries SGS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. will speak on ethical compliance and new requirements in 2013. Peries is the Regional Manager South East Asia / Business Manager and Supply Chain Assessments and Solutions (SAS) of SGS Lanka Ltd. Marketing and communications will be handled by the Senior Lecturer of MAST Far East. The Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association was formed in 1993 with the primary objective of promoting and fostering the growth of the garment Industry in Sri Lanka. The members of the Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association represent international prestigious brand names in the industry. A majority of the Association’s membership has been carrying out operations in Sri Lanka for more than 15 to 20 years, marketing the country and its merchandise effectively.  It considers training to be very vital for all in the apparel sector.
