Seminar on commercial contracts; legal and practical issues

Commercial law study is vital and fundamental to all careers in the corporate sector, whether in law, accounting, finance, management, HR, marketing, property, or entrepreneurship. Commercial contracts create binding and legally enforceable business relationships among the parties while creating mutual benefits to all of them. Such benefits can no doubt be maximised if such parties are very well aware about legal and practical issues connected with such contracts.
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) is organising a seminar on “Commercial Contracts: Legal and practical issues” on Monday 23 September, 2013, at Colombo Hilton from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., which will focus on the legal and practical aspects of such commercial contracts with the main objective of enhancing the knowledge and awareness of parties who involve in such transactions.
Areas covered at the seminar will be an introduction to commercial contracts and connected principles, practical and legal issues of contract formation, best drafting and documentation practices, legal provisions, acts and statutes which create significant impact on commercial contracts and practical aspects and best practices which can be adopted to maximise the benefits to organisations through such commercial contracts.
This half day seminar appeals to a wide audience, including, senior officers or managers of organisations who handle commercial contracts, in-house counsels and corporate and employed lawyers.
The BASL also welcomes senior managers of organisations, Attorneys-at-Law and other professionals, businessmen and entrepreneurs who wish to be aware of this subject as these areas are becoming increasingly important to commercial contracts.
The main speaker will be President’s Counsel and former Attorney General of Sri Lanka and former President Bar Association of Sri Lanka Shibly Aziz and a discussion panel will explore emerging issues in commercial contracts and will seek input from participants on their views in this regard.
The panellists will be President’s Counsel Dr. Dayanath Jayasuriya who will be the panel chairman, Attorney-at-Law Malik Cader and Lanka Orix Leasing Company (LOLC) Chief Operating Officer Kithsiri Gunawardena.
