Colombo Leadership Academy successfully launches inaugural leadership coaching program

Inspiring sustainable leadership, the inaugural ‘Winning Leadership Strategy for High Performance’ program was held by the Colombo Leadership Academy (CLA) recently at the Winchester Ballroom of The Kingsbury, Colombo. The program was preceded by a panel discussion titled ‘Should corporates invest in leadership development?’
The eminent panel comprised of Seylan Bank PLC DGM HRD Wasantha Senanayake, NLP Practitioner Archana Law, Direct Solutions Director Ian Ramsden, CEO Coach Singapore Andy Ng, Leadership and Success Coach Riaz Hassen and was moderated by Daily FT Editor in Chief Nisthar Cassim.

Key points that emerged during the panel discussion included the need to nurture leadership cultures in organisations that foster high performance and sustainability. The fundamental requirement for early identification and grooming of executives for leadership positions was stressed as a significant move in today’s challenging business landscape to retain good talent in organisations. The panel further emphasised on the roles of shareholders and CEOs in planning and determining the quantum of investments on leadership development during the annual budgeting on the improvement of leadership effectiveness of those who drive business performance.
CLA’s three day flagship leadership coaching program featured highly-acclaimed industry experts, thought leaders and innovators who shared real world experiences and case studies with cutting edge content. The immensely successful inaugural program recorded impressive attendance across diverse industry sectors, indicating the interest among Sri Lanka’s corporate sector to hone their strategic leadership skills and optimise on key strengths, ensuring the continued delivery of exceptional results.
Driving the successful program were highly experienced industry experts including Leadership & Strategic Transformation Coach Riaz Hassen, Hatton National Bank Chief Operating Officer Dilshan Rodrigo, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Head of Decision Sciences Dr. Saman Yapa, Executive Coach Jayantha Fernando, NLP Practioner Archana Law and CEO Coach Singapore Andy Ng.

Each panelist’s experience and industry know-how explored operational mechanisms, the dynamics of creating high performance teams and how to leverage existing strengths and hone new ones in highly volatile and ambiguous environments.
In today’s dynamic business environment, organisations are required to continuously empower senior managers to lead their business units to new horizons through developing deeper leadership insights and competencies for accelerated and sustainable business growth.
As a result, today’s business managers require a 360-degree perspective of the business landscape and a high degree of competency in all faculties to foster environments that are conducive for higher performances.
Aimed at meeting this need, CLA devised its flagship strategic leadership coaching program, which is designed to equip senior managers in leadership positions to inspire those they lead and enable individuals and teams to operate with a strong sense of shared responsibility to execute business strategies well.
The program outline included: Next Generation Leaders as Strategists; Leading with Emotional Intelligence; Leading Change and Transformation, Leading Strategic Direction; Strategy Execution; Leading for Operational Excellence, The first 100 Days of the CEO; and The Leader as a Coach
The course content was geared to coach those in leadership positions ranging from CEOs to senior managers and entrepreneurs and enables them to master the pathways to leadership effectiveness, navigate highly complex situations, establish high-performance business cultures, push business growth, manage change and create value for their organisations. It also empowers them to effectively use their leadership competencies to increase organisational performance.
Speaking about the benefits of the program, AIA Insurance Lanka PLC GM Piyal Hewapathirana said, “The Strategy Execution module was very interesting and I was able to take away lot of learning especially the contribution of leadership in leveraging and the engagement of all team members’ commitment for successful execution of strategy.”
