SLF launches a certificate course for fitness trainers

The Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF), Sri Lanka’s national centre for leadership, education and training which comes under the purview of the Presidential Secretariat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports has taken the initiative to introduce, for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka, a training program in order to improve technical knowledge in physical training and soft skills of fitness trainers to enhance their employability at a global level.

This program is powered by the Carlton Sports Networks (CSN), the premier sports channel in Sri Lanka. It will be conducted as a three month course which will cover both theory and practical aspects in fitness training. Target groups will be both those who are in the industry and potential fitness trainers, sports coaches and instructors who work in health clubs, fitness or recreation centres, gyms, schools, hospitals, universities, yoga centres and resorts, and clients’ homes. The outline of the program has been designed to cover areas including technical subjects and industry related soft skills in line with the fitness trainers’ job profile.

Secretary of Ministry of Sports (MOS) Anura Jayawickrame was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony and CSN Networks’ Director Marketing Prasanna Jayasundara was the Guest of Honour. From SLF, Chairman Prof. Ranjith Bandara, SLF Director P.H.J. Arunasiri, Consultant –Academic Affairs Samantha Rathnayake, International Coach and Lecturer Gareth McCormick, MOS Sports College Director Shantha Wijesinghe and MOS National Weightlifting Coach R.B. Wickramasinghe were also present at the occasion.
