The repeat program on the Board Leadership Training, conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID), will take place on 23 and 24 July at the Ivy Room of the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo.
SLID is renowned as the premier forum for Company Directors. The main objective and focus over the last 14 years has been on training directors on boardroom stewardship. As such SLID has a reputation for its training programs focusing on the needs of directors, to improve their effectiveness as a Directors, to understand their duties and responsibilities, enhance their board performance and decision making, extend their worth to the company and help to increase the performance of the organisation through improved board dynamics.
This two-day training program is based on the globally proven material developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Global Corporate Governance Forum, and customised to suit the Sri Lankan environment, and is reinforced by an all-encompassing case study. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka has endorsed the program which will be delivered by trained trainers supported by experienced practicing directors.
The previous program conducted in February was a great success with 48 enthusiastic chairmen, directors and CEOs participating. With demand exceeding the available capacity, SLID had to regretfully restrict the numbers. The participant’s ability to engage in more effective board discussions and display positive, value adding behaviour to the organisation’s performance was effectively accentuated, and strengthened, by the training.
There were many interactive sessions with case studies and role plays which proved as per the participants feed-back, to be more conducible and appropriate to the restricted smaller number. They also had an opportunity to network and discuss common issues with peers and this was identified by them as a very vital aspect of the training. Deepal Sooriyaarachchi, Professional Trainer and Director of Sampath Bank, commented: “It brought in a lot of practical insights from very experienced directors of the calibre of Ronnie Peiris, Finance Director of John Keells Holdings. It was not merely theory, but had many practical aspects addressed. Secondly, the teaching methodology was very different. It was not the normal sober kind of structure. It was a very lively learning atmosphere with mock board meetings, debates and discussions. The highlight of it was the real life examples used with video clips. I would certainly recommend this training for all directors and potential directors.”
This training is focused on directors of listed companies, private companies, State-owned enterprises, practicing directors (executive and non executive), aspiring directors and potential directors being groomed by organisations.
