SLIIT graduates commended by industry experts at annual HR forum

Guiding students to meet industry requirements and excel in their work place is a role SLIIT has maintained since its inception. SLIIT has been recognised as the premier degree awarding institute in the country which provides a broad scope of academic and industry opportunities for students in the fields of Computing, Business and Engineering. SLIIT, together with its industry partners; Sri Lanka Telecom, LOLC, IFS, Aeturnum Lanka Ltd, Unilever, hSenid Business Solutions, Innodata Isogen, Mobitel, SLASSCOM, Zone 24x7, Virtusa, David Pieris Motor Company, Prima Ceylon, Reservations Gateway Ltd and Orange IT held the annual HR forum to understand the progress of SLIIT graduates in the industry. Along with the industry partners were Dr. Malitha Wijesundara, Dean Faculty of Computing, Dr. Mahesha Kapurubandara, Dean International, Prof. Ashok Peiris, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Theekshana Suraweera, Dean Faculty of Business, Dr. Koliya Pulasinghe, Dean Graduate Studies & Research, Department Heads, Business Development team and the Career Guidance team of SLIIT. Commenting on student performance and work ethic, Pubudu Liyanage, Director Human Resources and Process Development at IFS R&D Limited said, “We have more than 100 SLIIT graduates working with us. We are also involved in a special scholarship programme with SLIIT, where they can work part time with us while following part-time courses. I find that the students of SLIIT are able to grasp things fairly quickly.” At SLIIT, students are offered enhanced support in career guidance to help them find internships and employment. Elaborating further, Dr. Mahesha Kapurubandara, Dean International noted, “We conduct a tracer study to find out if students are employed after completing their education at SLIIT.” Due to the high credibility and reputation SLIIT posses almost all students are employed within a period of six months after graduation. SLIIT offers mock interviews, free training and guidance to re-skill unemployed graduates. “We are glad that our industry partners have given us positive feedback, with regard to the performance of students at their place of work. It is our responsibility to have annual forums of this stature, to not only strengthen relationships between the various industries and SLIIT but also for us to understand the industry expectations, so that we can groom our students” noted Dr. Kapurubandara.
