SLIIT hosts National Conference on Technology and Management

SLIIT, the number one Institute in Higher Education hosted the 3rd National Conference on Technology and Management (NCTM) at the SLIIT Malabe campus recently. Under the theme Advances in Technology & Management for National Development the conference focused on the key aspects of Information Technology, Engineering, Management and the related disciplines which have a great impact in society.
Setting the stage for an open forum on the latest issues and progress in the field of IT, Engineering and Management, Professor Mangala Fonseka, Director, PIM, University of Sri Jayawardenepura delivered the keynote speech themed, in Research of Alternative Approaches and Methodologies in Social Science Research Professor Terrence Perera, Assistant Dean, Materials and Engineering Research Institute, Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), UK delivered his address on logistics and Supply Change Management and the driving force behind the growth.
Extending his appreciation to Dr. Samantha Thelijjagoda, Conference Chair, and his team for organising NCTM, Dr. Koliya Pulasinghe, Dean Graduate Studies and Research noted, “Under our theme this year, we look at a spectrum of research papers which address national issues and help with the development of our country. A conference of this nature is the stepping stone for many interested in the field of research.”
“We are honoured to host the National Conference on Technology and Management which provides opportunities for people interested in research to engage in discussions and familiarise themselves in the field. All the topics discussed pertain to national development, therefore it will enhance the knowledge of our students enabling them to not only know about their chosen field of study but also know about topics which will address national issues,” noted SLIIT President and CEO Professor Lalith Gamage.
In the midst of many thought provoking speeches and debates which took place by academics and industry professionals, from 58 submissions, 23 research articles were also recognised at NCTM 2014. These publications also triggered further research ideas and technology improvements in important subject areas.
Researchers were encouraged to make submissions on Engineering, Information Systems and Computer Networks, Business and Management, Information Technology and Social Development. All researchers who submitted their papers received more than three peer review reports which will further enable them to enhance their research work in the future.
The Gold award for the paper titled ‘A Risk Management Framework in the Cloud using Big Data and Security Informatics’ was presented to K.D.B.H. Subasinghe, S.R. Kodithuwakku and H.S.C. Perera. The Silver award was given to M. Pranavan, H.M.T.N. Dayarathna, S.A.R. Thilanka, P.R. Wijewantha and C.J. Wickramarathna, for their paper ‘Student Centric Virtual Tutelage with Categorisation and Progressive Perfection’. The Bronze award for the paper ‘Vee Bissa: Paddy Decision Support System’ was presented to I.A.N. Fernando, G.A. Deegala, W.D.R. Somawardhana, G.C. Dassanayake, A. Perera and P.S. Haddela.
SLIIT organised the 3rd National Conference on Technology and Management in collaboration with IFS the principal industry sponsor and Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) UK the principal academic sponsor. The National Science Foundation sponsored the publication of the event proceedings.
