Over Fifty Sri Lankan students who followed the Buckinghamshire New University (Bucks) MBA at Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) graduated this year alongside other international students at the Graduation Ceremony 2013 held on 11 September at Bucks University.
The number of graduates produced by SLIM this year is the highest for the SLIM/Bucks MBA, surpassing the number of graduates in 2012. This is a testament to the constant growth in quality and effectiveness of the degree which are on par with an MBA provided in the UK.
The intake for the SLIM/Bucks MBA new batch is now on and applicants are required to have a professional qualification and be at least 23 years of age. Executives with a minimum of eight years of work experience in a private or public organisation are eligible to apply. Relevant professional qualifications such as SLIM and CIM are considered as entry qualifications for this MBA program.
Bucks University, established 120 years ago, offers education to approximately 10,000 students in a variety of courses and is one of the most sought after universities in the UK. The MBA qualification has been offered by SLIM for the past six years and has paved the way for many marketers to enter the boardroom level.
SLIM President Gamika De Silva congratulated the graduates and noted the importance of the MBA programme to the future of marketing in Sri Lanka.
“It is indeed a great honour for SLIM to have produced over 50 graduates this year. As the national institute of marketing, we consider it our responsibility to ensure that marketing in Sri Lanka is at an international standard. This MBA program is an essential component as its success and growth will feed the marketing fraternity with highly qualified marketers,” he noted.
SLIM Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director Sanath Senanayake, while congratulating the graduates, noted that the SLIM/Bucks MBA provides a prestigious degree in Sri Lanka with facilities comparable to those in the UK.
“The MBA program provides many value additions to Sri Lankan students in order to provide them with a similar learning experience to students in the UK. Being armed with an internationally recognised qualification of this standard, is sure to advance the career of a marketer,” he noted.
The SLIM/Bucks MBA differs from other MBA qualifications available in Sri Lanka due to the facilities it offers such as the technologically advanced blackboard feature and the e-library facility. It is also unique as time conscious students can communicate directly with lecturers from the university even while travelling. The lecture notes and module designing for this degree are done directly from UK.
SLIM provides an expert panel of local lecturers to guide students through the entire program and there is individual attention paid to each student. Furthermore, parallel lecturing is offered for the dissertation, where there is support from an on-shore (Sri Lankan) and off-shore tutor (UK based lecturer). There are no hidden costs in the program and students are allowed to complete a subject before moving on to another module.
