SLT Campus initiates Presidential Scholarship scheme

Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) initiated its ‘Presidential Scholarship’ scheme as a corporate responsibility initiative under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. 

The epistle was handed over by Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and SLT Campus Chairman Kumarasinghe Sirisena to President Sirisena, along with Secretary to Ministry of Higher Education and Highways T.C. Dissanayake and SLT Campus Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Ranjith G. Rubasinghe. 

SLTC, a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC was embarked to fulfil the national need of expanding the provision of higher education in Sri Lanka by conducting quality undergraduate and post graduate degree programs including programs of globally reputed and high ranked universities. SLTC as a new initiative helps expand the much needed academic-industry collaboration and to help build the nation through a qualified, dedicated next generation of individuals.

To further assist the above goal of the nation, SLT is offering 30 scholarship opportunities to students who intend to read for the Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering Degree programs offered at SLTC and driving them to specialise in Electronics and Power Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Electronics and Engineering Management. 

The scholarship will be offered under the patronage of the President and will be named as ‘The Presidential Scholarships’. 20 scholarships amounting to a sum of Rs. 1.5 million each will be provided to students from each administrative district. Five scholarships amounting to a sum of Rs. 1.5 million each shall be provided to children of war heroes and armed forces personnel, while five scholarships amounting to a sum of Rs. 1.5 million each will be provided to students from internally displaced families due to the war in the Northern province within areas such as Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mulaitivu. Eligibility for the scholarships includes a high aptitude in the G.C.E Advance Level Examination in the Mathematics stream.

The scholarship awarding process will be monitored by the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure.

The SLT Campus property located at the former SLT Satellite Earth Station at Padukka provides a space for students to experience the cohesiveness and intimacy while still enjoying the cultural and scholarly resources of a research university in its sprawling 36-acre property.

Offering the scholarship opportunities for Sri Lankan youth will allow SLTC to become a key stakeholder in Sri Lanka’s knowledge based economy by directly contributing to academic excellence in Sri Lanka.
