Softlogic Holdings PLC, rated as one of Sri Lanka’s most dynamic and aggressive conglomerates, is laying greater emphasis on group-wide risk management and internal audit following its enhanced growth in diverse business sectors.
Appointment of Group Head – Risk and Internal Audit for Softlogic Group
Damith Vitharanage assumed duties as Group Head – Risk and Internal Audit at Softlogic Holdings from July 2013. Damith possess over 20 years of work experience in finance, internal and external auditing, information system change management, administration, human resources, financial analysis and general management. Having held senior management positions in both the State and private sectors, his work experience also spans across India and the Middle East.
Damith holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Preston, a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDP) (Honours) in HR Management and Industrial Relations from the Central Institute of Management (India), a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Colombo and hold certificates in project management and computer hardware.
He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Sri Lanka, Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK), Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and also an Associate Member of the Certified Information Systems Control and Audit Association (USA).
He started his career in 1992 at Shaw Wallace & Hedges Ltd., Colombo as a management trainee and joined Ernst & Young, Colombo from 1994 to 1998 before moving overseas. He then joined certified public accountants BDO International – Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Ernst & Young – Middle East Head Office in Bahrain and was appointed as Group Head of Finance, Administration and Human Resources at the Royal Plaza Group in Qatar.
Upon his return to Sri Lanka in 2005, he joined prominent investment research firm Amba Research as a Senior Finance Analyst/Associate Vice President and worked in India as well. He then took the position of CFO/Head of Finance, later General Manager/ CEO of Sri Lanka Transport Board (CTB), Sri Lanka’s largest state sector organisation, from 2007 to 2009. Prior to joining the Softlogic Group, he served as the Deputy General Manager – Audit and Investigations at Seylan Bank.
Softlogic Retail has been on a fast tracked expansion with the consumer electronics targeting to double its island-wide reach over the next two years. In a move to support the aggressive drive, Softlogic is mobilising industry talents to enhance its overall expertise in this very complex field.
Appointment of CEO – Retail Sector for Softlogic Retail
Nasser Majeed assumed duties as CEO of the Retail Sector at Softlogic Retail, formerly Uni Walkers, a fully owned subsidiary of Softlogic Holdings with effect from 1 August 2013.
Nasser counts over 25 years of multi discipline experience. He started his career at KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton & Company in 1981 and then moved to Singer Industries (Ceylon) in 1984. Joining as an Assistant Accountant at Singer Industries (Ceylon), he was subsequently cross posted to the marketing team as a Product Manager, in which field he rose to be the Marketing Director at Singer (Sri Lanka).
He served as Director and General Manager of Singer Company in Indonesia – PT Singer Indonesia Tbk from 2005 to 2006 before taking position as the Marketing Director at Singer Sri Lanka in 2007.
