The Round Table International World meeting was recently concluded in Visby, Sweden, where Sri Lankan members took office in to two out of five of the Round Table International board positions.

Altaf Jeevunjee of Colombo Taprobane Round Table 3 was sworn in as International President, the first time a Sri Lankan has held the post since the inception of the organisation in 1927. Ibrahim Saleem, also of Colombo Taprobane Round Table 3 took office as International Treasurer and Asia Pacific region Chairman.

This was a great achievement for the Round Table movement in Sri Lanka and shows the respect and admiration that the international community has towards the small but dedicated membership in the country. At present the Round Table Sri Lanka membership accounts for approximately 80 members out of around 35,000 worldwide in over 52 countries. A delegation of more than 20 Sri Lankan Round Table members attended the event to support Altaf and Ibrahim and represent their country.

Sri Lanka was also nominated for several international awards at the World Meeting, including Club of the Year and Tabler of the Year.

Round Table is an international movement with the goal of enabling young men aged 18 to 40 from different professions and disciplines to meet, exchange ideas and network, and also to provide a channel for them to give back to the community.

Some of the charity projects carried out are:

The Heroes Project by Colombo Cinnamon Round Table 4 which supports children with autism

The Kids off the Street project by Colombo Taprobane Round Table 3 which improves the lives of homeless children through drop in shelters and crèches.

Naaradha Sevana project of Table 1 which provided treatment to children out of Colombo for hearing problems by providing a facility for treatment and rehabilitation
