SriLankan Airlines once again demonstrated its high level of professionalism in human resource management and development when it won a Silver award in the open/private sector category at the HRM Awards 2014, held at the Cinnamon Grand recently. Organised by the Association of Human Resource Professionals (HRP), the HRM Awards recognise and reward industry best practices in Human Resources, while aiming to provide a platform for public and private sector companies in Sri Lanka to evaluate the effectiveness of their HRM practices against internationally accepted guidelines. Sharing his thoughts at the ceremony, the Head of Human Resources of SriLankan Airlines, Pradeepa Kekulawala, stated: “We are constantly searching for ways to evolve and innovate to implement the best HR practices within the organisation. While taking pride from our achievement, we need to invest ourselves in formulating the best HRM practices which we can adopt and practice and surpass industry benchmarks to become a trendsetter in the field of HR management.” SriLankan Airlines was among an elite set of companies from the corporate sector that shared the spotlight at the event as the ceremony recognised the best HR Management practitioners in the island. The leading companies of the island were audited and appraised by an independent panel of judges that comprised prominent local and international HR professionals. The ceremony was graced by leading HR professionals in the corporate sector with Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, Arjuna Ranatunga gracing the event as Chief Guest. SriLankan Airlines’ Human Resources Department won a Silver award in the Government-Owned Business category in the 2012 edition of the HRM awards. The airline was also awarded the prestigious ‘Best HR Strategy in line with Business Strategy’ award at the fifth edition of Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards, held at the Pan Pacific Hotel at Marina Square in Singapore last year.
