Sri Lanka’s premier hospitality brand Jetwing Hotels continues its commitment to the development and uplifting of local communities through the award winning Jetwing Youth Development Project (JYDP); this time in the once inaccessible region of Jaffna, located in the north of the country. The 11th instalment of Jetwing Youth Development Project began on 20 January at the Vocational Training Centre in Karainagar, Jaffna. A region with massive potential, Jaffna is currently transforming itself to a centre stage of tourist attraction by the inclusion of regional, cultural values to complement the already world-renowned Sri Lankan hospitality with the commitment and dedication of the local community. The opening ceremony was attended key personnel who represented the organisations taking part and executing the programme in respective areas, and included Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, Jetwing Chairman Hiran Cooray and Vocational Training Authority Director General Chulangi Perera. Following on the success of the JYDP held in Hambantota, Jetwing has partnered with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (Vocational Training in the North Project – GIZ) and the Vocational Training Authority (VTA). The two organisations have a long history and proven track record of helping the local community and providing training needs to fill employment requirements and were thus an ideal fit for the Project’s demanding logistical requirements. As per the previous programs, 80 trainees will be provided hands-on training in areas such as Front Office Management, Kitchen, Food & Beverage, and Housekeeping operations supplemented by language and communication instruction, and soft skills instruction – provided completely free of charge and without any employment restrictions. “The first ever JYDP went on to win the PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Grand Award, and more satisfying is the simple fact that through the programme hundreds of lives have been changed – talented and eager youth are given an opportunity to create a new future for themselves. With the support of our partners, GIZ and VTA, I look forward to seeing our country’s youth rise together, and champion our hospitality throughout the world,” said Cooray. Family owned and in the tourism industry for the past 41 years, Jetwing Hotels has surpassed expectation at every aspect. Building on their foundation of being passionate, as well as the experience of true, traditional Sri Lankan hospitality, constantly pioneering discoveries captures the essence of the brand. Such a strong statement and direction have enabled Jetwing Hotels to imagine, create and manage marvels and masterpieces, where distinctive design and elegant comfort complement each other and the environment. Considered a priority, sustainable and responsible practice is implemented through the award winning Jetwing Eternal Earth Program; with energy efficiency, community upliftment and education of earth saving measures to schoolchildren being a few tenets of the program.
