The Board of Directors of Imperial Institute of Higher Education, popularly known as IIHE, has appointed Trevor Mendis as the Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 May 2013.
IIHE, which has a solid market reputation for conducting high quality higher education programs, offers undergraduate and post graduate degrees from the University of Wales UK since 1996 in Sri Lanka along with several other programs such as the Foundation program from Edexcel and the Diploma in International Hospitality Management from the Institute of Hospitality, London.
Dr. Weerakoon, who was the Academic Director/CEO of IIHE, will continue as the Academic Director. Trevor, after leaving his Alma Mater, St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, started his career as a banker in his teens at Hatton National Bank where he accomplished many milestones and performed in several capacities before migrating to New Zealand. He was employed at ANZ Bank, a 500 Fortune Company, in Auckland as a Credit Analyst.
Upon his return to Sri Lanka, he joined Pan Asia Bank as the Asst. General Manager Corporate Planning and Business Development. As a corporate management member, he was involved in apex committees such as Asset and Liability (ALCO), IT Steering, Internal and Board Credit Committees. He also held the position of AGM Leasing subsequently.
After leaving Pan Asia Bank, he worked as a Management Consultant and a Strategist undertaking various consultancy assignments from the corporate sector whilst visiting as a faculty member at several reputed Universities and Institutes such as the Colombo University, IIHE, PG Institute of Medicine, ACBT as an MBA Lecturer.
While visiting IIHE, he was offered the Course Director position for their BSc Management degree program in 2008, and thereafter promoted as the Course Director BSC and MBA in 2010 for their University of Wales UK programs.
Trevor obtained his first Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM), Sri Jayewardenepura University, and obtained his second Masters Degree in Management from the prestigious Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. He is a Fellow member of the Chartered Management Institute of UK (FCMI) and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business & Financial Administration from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and an Associate Member (fully qualified AIB) of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. Presently he is in the final stage of completing his Doctoral (PhD) studies on Corporate Governance.
Trevor is an executive committee member of the CMI UK Sri Lankan branch and a think tank member and a resource person at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Affairs in Sri Lanka and a member of Sri Lanka Institute of Directors. He is also a Life Alumni member for PIM-USJ and the Massey University and a Life member of the Association of Professional Bankers in Sri Lanka. Recently he was appointed to the ‘Advisory Council’ of the World CSR program in Mumbai India due to his expertise and knowledge on CSR, Ethics and Sustainability. He has specialised in strategic management, corporate governance, re-engineering, and research. Trevor has written several articles to various magazines, newspapers and the journals on divergent arenas such as ethics and CSR, stress management, emotional intelligence, positive organisational behaviour, 21st century HR challenges and corporate governance, and successfully supervised over 60 dissertations to date on divergent and ramified research arenas for University of Wales UK BSc and MBA programs. Industry sources reveal that Trevor is a unique personality possessing wealth of exposure in three facets namely banking, strategic affairs and academic affairs. However he will be moving away from the academic affairs with the new appointment as the CEO of IIHE in order to fulfil their future expansion programs.
