Union Assurance (UA), the country’s trusted insurance solutions provider was recently the recipient of a Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development (SLITAD) People Development Award, with the inaugural ceremony being held on 22 November 2013. UA was a proud recipient of a Gold award at this glamorous ceremony, epitomising the effort of its Human Resources and Learning and Development departments in developing its people through unique development interventions.
The event was organised by the SLITAD with the primary objective of bringing together both Governmental and private organisations to recognise efforts in the education and development of sound Human Resource Development and Training & Development practices in Sri Lanka. The SLITAD Awards called for applications from all scopes of industry and was assessed on criteria where all shortlisted organisations were screened through a comprehensive auditing process out of which UA excelled.“We are excited to have won a Gold award at this event, which is the pinnacle of recognition given to organisations that have paved the way for excellence in human resource development. Our efforts in developing our staff have been recognised and we are honoured to be the only insurer considered for Gold this year,” said AGM Learning & Development Suranjith Godagama. Overall, the awards were presented to those who scored beyond the minimum standards of aten-criterion framework which included elements such as the company’s People Management strategies, assessing excellence in promoting equal opportunities in people development. Criteria such as leadership and management strategy set benchmarks on the organisation’s capability to allow managers to lead, manage and develop people effectively. Ten other such criteria existed for award recipients, and effectively judged by a panel of renowned HR and Training & Development specialists attached to the Colombo University.
“Union Assurance concentrates on leadership, management, personality development, language skills and one of a kind ‘life skills’ programs catering to the ‘Y Generation’ who are leaders or are budding leaders in the organisational landscape today,” added General Manager Human Resources Rohan Jayasinghe. “Three such signature programs focus on the top talent in their respective levels undoubtedly assisting participants to develop themselves beyond expectations,” he concluded.
To add to its credit, UA was recently recognised as a ‘Great Place to Work’ via a survey conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute in partnership with LMD and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for its effort supports this with a companywide learning culture and collective vision to be the most sought after provider of insurance solutions.
