Key initiative to be launched on 142nd Founder’s Day Special Assembly tomorrow morning

Wesley College which marks 142nd anniversary this week is inviting top old boys to be members of the new initiative Wesley College Professionals Forum.

The launch of the Professionals Forum will take place during the special assembly tomorrow 2 March starting at 8.00 a.m. to mark the 142nd Founder’s Day at the College premises.

The Principal of Wesley College has extended an open invitation to Old boys who are professionals in all spheres to grace the Special Assembly as well as the launch of the Professionals Forum.

This Forum is expected to be a catalyst and help motivate the future generations of Wesleyites.

The launch of the Forum is a highlight of the week-long events to mark the 142nd Founder’s Day.

Wesley College was founded 142 years ago by the Rev. Daniel H. Pereira in Dam Street, Pettah on 2 March 1874. A spokesman for the OBU said past and present Wesleyites are invited to come together and greet each other during a week of Founders and Old Boy’s Day celebrations beginning 2 March.

From Rev. Samuel R Wilkin, Wesley’s first Principal (1874-1879)to its current, Dr. Ben Manickam, Wesley has continued to strive to transform itself to be a leading educational institution in Sri Lanka.

The 142nd Founders Day Special Assembly will be held at the College Hall on 2 March at 8a.m. On 4 March at 4:30 p.m. the Past vs Present hockey and soccer matches at Campbell Park will be held with respective coordinators being Rohan Amarasinghe(hockey) and Benzy Fernando (soccer). The same evening at 6p.m. Wesley College Principal will host all participants and well wishers for a tea party at the Pavilion. Thereafter at 7:30 p.m. Past vs Present water polo match will be played at the College swimming pool with coordinator of the event being Edward Vandendriesen.

On 5 March, Past and Present basketball match will be played at 8a.m. at the College Premises with the coordinator being Faizal Deva.

At 9 a.m. same day, the traditional cricket match between Old Boys vs Present 1st X1 cricket team will be played on a T20 format at the Campbell Park. Coordinators of this event are Oscar Dissanayake and Dharshana Liyanage.

At 1 p.m. the traditional OBU lunch will be hosted at the College premises with tickets priced at Rs. 1,000. Thereafter at 2:30 p.m. the Wesley College Old Boys Union will hold its Annual General Meeting at the College Hall. College ties will be sold at a specially discounted price of Rs. 750 on the day.

On Sunday 6 March, as part of the celebration of the Founders Day, a Special Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Chapel at 4:30 p.m.
