WISTA felicitates SLPA Finance Director Shirani Wanniarachchi

Sri Lanka Ports Authority Finance Director Shirani Wanniarachchi has received the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) felicitation award for the public service sector in the shipping field. The award was presented by Rohan de Silva, Representative of CASA Advisory Council and Chairman/Managing Director of the McLarens Group of Companies at the launch of WISTA – Sri Lanka (Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association) recently, bringing glory to the state run Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The awards were presented to a few women who have played a vital role in developing the woman’s role in the Sri Lankan Shipping Industry. With this inaugural launch Sri Lanka joins this global network of WISTA the global networking association for women in the Maritime industry. Shirani is a past student of Ananda BalikaVidyalaya in Colombo 10 and graduated from ICASL in 1987. She became an Associate Member of ICASL in 1998 and a Fellow Member of ICASL in 2004. She served in the capacities of Director (Finance) at Sri Lanka Standards Institution, Director (Finance) at Consumer Affairs Authority, DGM Finance at the Development Lotteries Board as well as a Director of the JCT Ltd; and a Director of MPMC Limited. Shirani Wanniarachchi has a proven track record of managing successful finance functions in Sri Lanka. Being the Director (Finance) of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) since the year 2006 to date she plays an integral role in providing financial and strategic insight to the leadership team of SLPA. WISTA is a networking association for women in the Maritime industry, by facilitating contacts, information and experiences among its members. The Association also promotes and facilitates the education of its members and provides liaison with other related institutions world-wide. WISTA is acknowledged as a professional and highly reputable shipping organisation with focus on improving levels of competency in the shipping industry and aims to attract highly qualified people to the industry and improve level of competency through focus on education and knowledge sharing.
