Workshop on ‘Business Analytics and Big Data Mining for Smarter Decision Making’

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of Sri Lanka and Certified Professional Managers (CPM) in association with IFIM Business School, Bangalore, India with support from Association of Management Development Institutions of South Asia (AMDISA)  has organised a three-day workshop on ‘Business Analytics and Big Data Mining for Smarter Decision Making’. The workshop will be held from 28-30 September at Distance Learning Centre, 28/10, Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Business analytics is an important driver for profitability, return on investment and operational efficiency of all organisations, now and in future. Implementation of Enterprise applications is generating large volumes of digital data. However, the challenge remains to exploit and derive meaningful interpretations out of this large pool of data. 

Of late, e-commerce, web analytics, m-commerce and social media analytics have also gained huge momentum. Organisations are using information on various social media platform to gain insights into consumer behavior and make critical strategic decisions.

The purpose of this  workshop is to introduce business analytics and big data mining techniques to the practitioners and academia from Finance,accounting, operations, retail, marketing, HR, IT, and others who are interested in understanding how business analytics tools improve decision-making process. 

The workshop will primarily focus on data-driven techniques – both exploratory and predictive analytics tools – for mining business data. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Evolution of Business Analytics 
  • Hypothesis-Driven Culture based on Statistical Tools vs. Data-driven Techniques
  • Market Segmentation and Clustering
  • Predictive Analytics 
  • Decision Trees
  • Forecasting Models: Time Series Models
  • Hands-on Practice on Rattle (R based UI) and SPSS

Participants will be walked through some analytics applications for business problems in marketing and CRM, retail, banking and finance, telecom, HR, etc. In addition, they will be exposed to big data world – in particular to web analytics and e-commerce analytics (computers will be provided to each participant).

The analytics experts from IFIM Business School Bangalore, India will conduct the workshop with hands-on sessions.
