Workshop on enhancing intake to national universities

The Ministry of Policy Planning, Economic Affairs, Child and Youth Affairs through the National Human Resources Development Council of Sri Lanka conducted a workshop recently involving university academia, public sector higher education, professional bodies, private sector and Chamber of Commerce officials.
The workshop was held to develop recommendations for enhancing the intake to national universities and other higher and professional educational institutes to cater to those who qualify at Advanced Level but do not gain admission to national universities and to develop recommendations to create one million employment opportunities within the country and through foreign and self-employment as part of the Government’s 100 day program.
The workshop participants discussed and developed recommendations in the following areas:
How to create awareness among advance level qualified students about further education opportunities?
The role of the national universities to raise student intake.
Do the existing further educational institutions have sufficient capacity to increase student intake?
The employment supply and demand situation and recommendations for bridging the gap
The Chief Guest was Priyantha Rathnayake Additional Secretary, Ministry of Policy planning, Economic Affairs, Child and Youth Affairs.
The workshop was moderated by Human Resources Specialist Sunil Dissanayake and facilitated by the National Human Resources Development Council of Sri Lanka, led by the Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody, Director K.A.L. Lalthadheera, Assistant Directors and staff.
