Pakistan, China to boost counter-terrorism cooperation

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Gen Qi Jianguo in Beijing yesterday and discussed a full range of regional security and defence related issues. According to ISPR, during the meeting they discussed different matters of bilateral cooperation, including enhanced long-term defence collaboration, security and counter terrorism cooperation, intelligence sharing and training exchanges. Earlier on his arrival, General Raheel Sharif was presented a Guard of Honour at the People’s Liberation Army Headquarters. He reviewed the guard of honour along with his Chinese counterpart. Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif also held a meeting with China’s Central Military Commission Vice Chairman General Fan Changlong in Beijing yesterday. According to ISPR, General Fan described Pakistan and China as strategic partners, most important neighbours, and tied in strong bonds of brotherhood. He expressed solidarity with Pakistan in indiscriminate operation against terrorists. The Chinese General also lauded national consensus against terrorism, and Pakistan’s resolve and sacrifices in fighting the menace. He assured China’s full support to Pakistan in the fight against terrorism. General Raheel Sharif said with nation’s support, the Army will go to any extent to eliminate terrorism. (PBC)
