The 34th National Information Technology Conference (NITC) organised by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) is scheduled to be held on 8 and 10 August at Galadari Hotel Colombo. The conference will focus on ICT innovations happening local and globally, and sharing knowledge among the ICT community in Sri Lanka.
The Computer Society of Sri Lanka has been organising the NITC since a few years of its inception, which was 40 years ago. This year, the CSSL is organising the event for the 34th instance with a welcome mix of local and foreign speakers. The topic this year is ‘Enhancing Sri Lanka through Digital Disruption’, which is a timely topic considering the various public and private initiatives that are underway to launch various products and services for the betterment of society, by leveraging the latest technology that is out there.
There is a lot of young talent available in this country itself, especially in the field of Information Technology, and this is proven by the fact that there are plenty of award winning home grown IT companies that provide cutting-edge solutions to local and international clients. Whilst other countries may be known for quantity, Sri Lanka is on the IT map for quality, be it in knowledge management, knowledge process and business process outsourcing, software solutions, and even research and development.
One objective behind the organising of this annual event is to bring in international speakers to talk about the latest avenues that they are working in and researching on, so that the young minds of this country can get some inspiration and direction. Another objective is for thought leaders of this country to present their innovations and ideas so that the business community may spot opportunities for practical deployment and commercialisation of their ideas and products. Another objective is to provide a platform for young academics to present their research at a National event, and to publish their findings.
This year’s event will be inaugurated on 8 August at the Galadari Hotel, with the formal conference taking place on 9 and 10 August at the same venue. Distinguished speakers that are scheduled to present include Prof. Dimiter Velev from the University of National World Economy – Bulgaria, Michelle Beveridge – CIO of the Inteprid Group, Champika Wijayatunga – Regional Security Engagement Manager from ICANN, Prof. Ashu Marasinghe MP, Mehrnoush Salehpour from Telstra International Group, among others.
The conference is divided into a number of streams, and on the second and third day, you can pick and choose which ones you attend. The main streams include Affordable Internet, Healthcare ICT, Smart Payments, Quality Assurance, Open source, Safety and Security, IOT, Leveraging the Cloud.
ICT Professionals of this country are invited to join with us, especially at this pinnacle moment when there is a massive spotlight on the local industry due to the controversies and discussions associated with the proposed ETCA with India. Limited numbers of tickets are available, and can be obtained by visiting NITC.LK.
The Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) was established in 1976 with the aim of providing a voice for the professionals who are engaged in the field of ICT. Over the years, CSSL has gone through many transformations to stay abreast of the changes that have taken place, and have initiated a number of programs for the uplifting of this field including the National Schools’ Software Competition, creation of Chapters and Special Interest Groups, hosting of tech-eves and discussions, conducting of school seminars, the National IT MasterMind Televised Quiz Competition, and so forth, with the flagship event being the National IT Conference.
