In this day and age, when new innovations and technological advancements have become the norm, the ability to be successful in a competitive and ever-changing landscape is a challenge faced by many organisations and individuals alike. Those who do thrive in these conditions, as described in the Darwinian evolutionary theory, are the ones who are able to quickly adapt to change. Simply said, they are ‘Agile’.
BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, is partnering with the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) to launch the BCS Professional Certificate in Agile. The event, an open day, will commence from 6 p.m. onwards at the NIBM premises on Thursday 24 May.
Offered for the first time in Sri Lanka, the BCS Professional Certificate in Agile is one of several professional certifications included in the institutes’ portfolio. Together with Agile, Business analysis, Software testing and user experience, Project and program management, and GDPR and data protection are some the most sought-after Professional Certifications offered by the institute in the United Kingdom.
Tailored towards business and IT professionals interested in learning Agile practices, the Professional Certificate in Agile is designed to offer the candidates with an in-depth knowledge of the application, practices, tools and techniques associated with various Agile methodologies such as Scrum, XP, Kanban, Lean and Lean Startup. Today, there are over 5,000 IT professionals who have obtained the BCS Professional Certificate in Agile globally.
Since its inception in 2001, until quite recently, Agile has been considered to be a methodology primarily used in Software Development. The introduction of Agile practices helped transform the IT industry; project success rates increased considerably while simultaneously boosting the level of customer satisfaction. Many IT solutions providers adopted SCRUM, one of the most popular Agile methodologies, as their development framework to address complex adaptive problems, which enabled them to deliver solutions of the highest possible value whilst fostering productivity and creativity.
The key factors that differentiate Agile from traditional methodologies, are the four values described in the Agile manifesto. Thus, Agile projects focus on Individuals and interactions over processes and tools, working software over comprehensive documentation, customer collaboration over contract negotiation, and responding to change over following a plan.
NIBM is the first accredited training provider for the BCS Professional Certificate in Agile. A fast-growing semi-Government institute, NIBM offers an array of well-recognised academic and professional qualifications catered towards school leavers and employed individuals at a reasonable cost. The stability of being a Government institution, enriched by the customer driven philosophy of the private sector has enabled NIBM to boast of a legacy spanning over more than five decades in the business of training and development. Blessed with the best of both worlds, the vision of NIBM is to be the best management education institute in Sri Lanka that offers unmatched opportunities in management and IT education.
The pioneering professional body in the IT industry, BCS, celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017. Committed towards making IT good for society, the institute does so by setting standards and frameworks, nurturing relationships between professionals, academics and businesses, fostering new thinking and supporting practitioners in continuous professional development via training, certifications and membership.
The launch event will provide the participants with an opportunity to interact with representatives of BCS and NIBM, lecturers and representatives from the UK. Registrations are open for the first batch scheduled to start on 10 June.
