The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved measures to integrate information technology systems across public corporations and statutory boards, to boost the efficiency and quality of public services.
Recognising the importance of optimising functions through accurate data verification and minimising duplication, the Government has laid out specific guidelines for data entry within public institutions.
The approved measures include:
1) To be made compulsory to use the national identity card number for the identification of Sri Lankan citizens over 15 years of age
2) To be made compulsory to use the passport number for the identification of a foreigner
3) To be made compulsory to use the business registration number and the national identity card numbers of the owners/members of the Board of Directors and the passport number for the foreign member
4) Standardisation of data enabling the transfer of relevant data formally with other Government institutions.
The move aims to streamline public sector operations, reduce redundancies, and improve service delivery by ensuring accurate and consistent data usage across different governmental entities.
The proposal to this effect submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies Minister, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
