The DigiEduHack ’19, an education hackathon organised jointly by European Commission, European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and Aalto University of Finland, with the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) will be held from 10 a.m. on 3 October to 4:30 p.m. on 4 October at the Central Campus of the Open University of Sri Lanka, Nawala, Nugegoda.
Hackathon is a gathering where hackers collaboratively arrange in an extreme manner over a short period of time. Education Hackathon is a global platform for students, designers, developers, edtech startups, schools, education innovators and suppliers, focusing on building solutions for today’s education problems and brings up creative ideas and solutions in the form of prototypes with a multidisciplinary approach. DigiEduHack ‘19 provides a platform for all stakeholders in education to engage in a dialogue on the future of education in the digital age.
To meet the challenges and opportunities related to education in the digital age, the European Commission has published a Digital Education Action Plan, as part of the initiatives supporting the creation of the Sri Lankan Education Area in which effectively and efficiently. The priority areas of the Action Plan are to improve the use of technologies for teaching and learning, ensure that everyone has the digital skills and competences needed, and exploiting data and digital technologies to the benefit of education.
The DigiEduHack represents a pioneering way to collect intelligence on the key trends arising from the digital transformation for the education system and an opportunity to listen to stakeholders in an innovative way.
DigiEduHack will help organisations identify key challenges for education in the digital age and co-create innovative solutions across disciplines and organisations.
During the 24h events, multidisciplinary teams of educators, students and innovators will get together to solve challenges in digital education and present solutions. After the main event there will be a final global award contest, in which three teams that best represent the priority areas of the Digital Education Action Plan will be chosen and awarded, in order to implement their solutions.
In the event the best three groups are rewarded locally as Rs. 100,000 for the first place, Rs. 50,000 for the second place, and Rs. 35,000 for the third place. All participants stand a chance to win Euro 5,000 (approx.: Rs. 1 million) for the best solution irrespective of local selection in the global contest.
