Google’s premier certified partner in Sri Lanka FineTech Consultancy recently hosted a forum on the ‘Future of Digitisation’. Attended by Chief Information Officers of leading government and private sector organisations, the breakfast meeting was held at Marino Beach Hotel. The event was also graced by Ash Wills, Head of Cloud Partners and Alliances, Asia Pacific and Japan for Google.

Delivering the opening address FineTech Co-Founder and Director/CEO Clehan Pulle said, “Digitisation needs to be a top down approach which is why together with Google, we at FineTech believe in educating the top level management of organisations on the importance of digitising their business. We look forward to many such events in the future as we spearhead Sri Lanka’s digital transformation.”

Speaking on the topic of ‘Digital Transformation in the Cloud Era and Innovation at Google’, Willis took practical examples to explain how companies from multi-nationals to small enterprises are using Google to better their businesses. He also reiterated on how Google is not only changing the way we do business but also how we live.

Speaking further he elaborated on how digitisation starts with a mindset change and that once companies realise the value of going digital the transformation is simple. He concluded with adding that Google’s mission is to transfer information to people and to make their lives better.

Next on the agenda was Harshal Pendse Head of the Indian Subcontinent Google Cloud Partnerships and Alliances who spoke on “What’s next with Google Cloud”. He illustrated on Google’s ability to build, organise, and operate a huge network of servers and fibre-optic cables with an efficiency and speed that literally is the safest network in the world. He added that although people were sceptic about storing data on the cloud in the old days because of security reasons, today it is the enhanced security itself that prompts people to make the shift.

Clehan then gave a practical demonstration of some of Google’s functionalities using Google meeting, spreadsheets and voice-to-text recognition. This was followed by a panel discussion featuring current users of Google Cloud products. The panel discussed how Google Cloud had helped them streamline processes and optimise their work places.
