The annual event was the culmination of ‘Scale-Up Week’, hosting a delegation of more than 50 international guests from the global tech industry.
This year’s edition included a series of engaging workshops and events designed to empower partners and employees with valuable insights and knowledge. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in workshops focused on agile principles and the transformative potential of AI, led by industry experts Azeem Saheer from Luminary and Dr. Sagara Sumathipala of Gapstars.
The final event, held at Port City, Colombo, brought together industry leaders, partners, employees, and community members to celebrate the company’s extraordinary achievements and future and plans.
Highlighting the spirit of innovation and collaboration, the Scale-Up Party culminated in the spectacular ‘Moon Party’ at Port City, featuring electrifying performances by Naadro and 2Forty2, along with mesmerising fire dancing acts. The evening was hosted by the charismatic Fahad Farook, creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
Speaking at the event, Gapstars CEO Hugo Hemmen said: “At Gapstars, we believe in the power of community and collaboration, and Scale-Up 2024 is a testament to the incredible journey we’ve embarked on and the remarkable growth we’ve achieved together.”
Established with a vision to bring Sri Lanka’s tech talent to the world, Gapstars has evolved from its humble beginnings into a powerhouse with over 250 employees and a diverse portfolio of clients spanning across the EU and the US. What started as a single tech team in Colombo has now expanded into a dynamic international company with offices spanning four countries: The Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Portugal, and the UAE. Hemmen noted, “We are immensely proud of our team and partners who have been instrumental in driving our growth and success. As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our presence and positively impacting the communities we serve.”
In addition to celebrating achievements, Gapstars also took the opportunity to give back to the community through its charity initiatives, in collaboration with The Liv Foundation. Visiting The Cholankande Technical School, Gapstars engaged with donors, discussed progress, and laid plans for future initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility and community development.
Scale-Up 2024 was made possible by the unwavering support of Gapstars’ esteemed partners bringing down a large international delegation, including P1, Fixico, Safer Pet, Daisycon, B&S, PastBook, IPROX, Monotch, Temper, Conxillium, and many others.
Gapstars in the Netherlands was founded in 2015 and is currently under the leadership of its Co-Founder and CEO Hugo Hemmen, and Co-Founder and COO David Bijker.
The international company builds high-performance tech teams for start-ups and scale-ups from Europe and beyond. Looking ahead, Gapstars said it remains dedicated to its mission of driving innovation and fostering collaboration across its global network of tech hubs. The company is growing rapidly. Currently, Gapstars has a workforce of over 250 employees based in Colombo and seeks to expand the team in Sri Lanka to over 300 employees by the end of 2024.
