Viber, one of the world’s leading apps for free and easy communication, is taking daily conversations with family and friends and colleagues up a notch by giving users more creative expression, bringing more fun and colour to chats with the all-new Viber Lens, launched just recently in Sri Lanka.

Teaming up with Snap Inc., the tech company behind Snapchat, Viber is adding the magic of augmented reality (AR) to its in-app camera with the first batch of its Viber Lenses—30 attention-grabbing camera filters such as animal masks, fantasy effects, Bitmoji avatars, and users’ favourite Viber characters.

These fun features will definitely inject some playfulness to chats with family and friends. Viber Lens is easy to use by simply launching Viber’s camera within chats and picking a lens. Users can take a snap or a clip and send to get the fun times started.

True to its goal of giving users endless options when it comes to expressing themselves and having dynamic and authentic conversations, Viber is also planning to add at least 20 additional lenses each month to keep the fun going. Some lenses will allow users to change colours or the stickers that appear on the screen to give the lens a signature look.

Showing supporting for important issues or even your favourite sports team, users can select branded lenses from partners such as World Health Organization, World Wildlife Fund, and FC Barcelona.

“By implementing this technology, Viber Lens helps empower our user’s creativity in making simple communication more entertaining and vivid. It gives them more freedom on how they relay their thoughts and feelings to whoever they’re talking to, all while having a little fun,” says Rakuten Viber Senior Director for APAC David Tse. “With this partnership with Snap’s most advanced AR capabilities, we’re excited to usher in a new way of messaging while keeping true to our commitment to high security standards for all messages, video, and images sent over the app.”

“We are pushing the boundaries of AR with the launch of our all-new Viber Lens. Our users who are separated from family due to the current pandemic are looking at more meaningful ways to keep in touch and share more memorable moments,” says Rakuten Viber Chief Growth Officer Anna Znamenskaya. “The Viber Lens brings imagination to life in exciting ways. We believe this will spur the development of innovative and exciting new addition to our products in the future.”

Keeping in touch now is not only uncomplicated, but soon to become more delightful and dynamic with Viber Lens and will be available for iOS (Viber version 15.5.5 and up) and Android (Viber version 15.8.0.15 and up). When launches, users will need to update their Viber version to   16.0 and above to experience AR magic to their conversations.
