STEMUP Educational Foundation (STEMUP) has announced its partnership with Code.org, a global independent and non-profit organisation, to join the international movement to encourage and promote the teaching and raise awareness of computer science for the next generation of students and academics in Sri Lanka.
STEMUP will work closely with Code.org to develop initiatives to raise awareness and promote curriculum changes to integrate computer science skills and concepts from an early age. This will also include providing insights into the potential opportunities and future prospects of embarking onto this career path.
The partnership will prioritise the expansion of computer science education for Sri Lankan students by providing free, accessible content. The efforts will involve equipping teaching staff with the necessary skills to raise awareness about the importance of computer science, cultivate student curiosity, and impart key concepts.
STEMUP Educational Foundation Founder and Director Prabhath Mannapperuma said: “We, at STEMUP, are really excited to take our partnership with Code.org to the next level by becoming the International Partner for Sri Lanka. Over the years, we have put in a lot of hard work to take Code.org initiatives across Sri Lanka and the results have been very promising. This partnership will certainly help us to open up more opportunities for students in Sri Lanka.”
Code.org, VP of Development and International Leonardo Ortiz Villacorta said: “Code.org is excited to partner with STEMUP to help every student in every school in Sri Lanka have access to learning Computer Science. We look forward to working with STEMUP in Hour of Code campaign, teacher training, and many more opportunities.”
